Every person I have met that has since this show has fallen in love with "Phantom."
This is somewhat amazing when you think about the expectations the cast and crew were up against. After all, when most theater-goers think of "Phantom," they think of the record-breaking Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, beloved by Broadway fans since the late 1980s. In fact, I may have already mentioned, that I LOVE the Michael Crawford version of Phantom -- and I have to admit I thought that the Kopit & Yeston version would pale by comparison.
But low and behold, Canyon Theatre Guild's "Phantom" has soulful music, an achingly romantic storyline, and some of the most brilliant performers in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Don't miss out on the final shows:
Friday, Oct. 30th 8pm
Saturday, Oct. 31st 2pm Matinee
Saturday, Oct 31st 8 pm (Halloween Party -- wear your costume!)
Sunday, Nov. 1st (Final Performance)

Halloween Party: Celebrate the Final Weekend of "Phantom"
There's perhaps no better way to spend this Halloween than with friends and family watching a beautifully haunting musical: "Phantom."
The Canyon Theatre Guild invites its guests to arrive early and in costume. Why should the actors be the only ones who enjoy all of the fun. Better order your tickets ASAP -- many of our shows have been selling out, which is not surprising when you consider the overwhelmingly positive response that we've gotten.
This is the kind of show that makes you laugh, cry, gasp, and sigh. (Sometimes all at once.)

Zombies Invade CTG!
Okay, there was more dancing than invading... The comic book store Brave New World (just a couple blocks away from our beloved Canyon Theatre Guild) hosted a Zombie March. Volunteers and wanna-be zombies from all over the Valley gathered to participate in this merry-yet-macabre event. Make-up artists were on hand to ghoulify the crowd, and once everyone had transformed into the walking dead, they began moaning their way down Newhall's Main Street.
Fortunately all of the zombie were very well behaved. No reports of brain devouring. In fact, from this photo, it looks as though these Zombies were quite friendly:
Best of all, just before the zombies crossed the street to the Heritage Haunted House, the zombies were treated to the Canyon Theater Corpses as they danced to Michael Jackson's "Thriller." Choreographers Musette Caing and Jan Marie Reynolds joined with many other undead thespians. Their devilishly wonderful dancing would have made ol' MJ would be proud!
But if you missed the Zombie March last night, there is still much Halloween fun at the Canyon Theater Guild.
Phantom runs from now until Oct. 31st. Order your tickets for this fantastic musical today!

Now Playing: Kopit and Yeston's "Phantom"
From now until Halloween, audiences will be drawn in to the dark enchantment of the American Musical Sensation: Phantom.
And you may have heard, this is not the Andrew Lloyd Webber pop-musical made famous in the 1980s. The music of the score by Maury Yeston emulates the style of turn-of-the-century operettas, traversing from the romantically ethereal to the mysteriously sublime.
Before they had ever heard of Sir Webber's version, composer Maury Yeston and playwright Arthur Kopit chose to adapt Leroux’s novel. Unfortunately for them, as they were finishing up their musical they opened up a Variety magazine to discover that Webber’s next extravaganza was none other than The Phantom of the Opera. (Simpsons fans would call this a “D’oh!” moment).
Yeston and Kopit’s financial backers did not want to compete with the man who brought the world Cats, so they abandoned the project. The Kopit and Yeston musical collected dust for a while, but in the early 90s they returned to the project and the result is a beautiful and tragic love story.
Many who have watched the Canyon Theatre Guild production have claimed that the Kopit & Yeston production is more exquisite than the Andrew Lloyd Webber version.
Come see our production and find out for yourselves!

Pirate Gala: A Taste of Adventure
Arg! Did ye to to the Pirate Gala on October 2nd? If not, ye missed the swashbuckling event of the year. Guests arrived around 6 o'clock, most of them dressed in their finest pirate attire. They were greeted by sea-shanties, saucy wenches, and a no-host bar -- for what is an evening of buccaneer mayhem without the rum?
Board Member Billy Davis was no where to be seen at the event; however, I did spot someone who vaguely looked like him -- perhaps a distant cousin? He goes by the name of Captain Hook, and in between the food and festivities, the wicked Captain battled that eternally youthful trickster, Peter Pan.
Thanks to all of the volunteers who worked so diligently to create such a magical and adventurous event!
